Dear Avalon Mini 3 Users,
We have recently received feedback from users regarding the different modes on the Avalon Mini 3, with some finding them unclear. We take this feedback seriously and want to provide a clear explanation of how these modes work and why they were designed.
I. Why Did We Create the Avalon Mini 3 and Its Modes?
Since launching the Avalon Nano 3, we’ve received thousands of reviews—many of them expressing excitement about Bitcoin mining at home. This overwhelming enthusiasm highlighted the growing demand for a user-friendly, home-compatible mining solution.
However, traditional industrial mining machines are too loud and energy-intensive for home environments. That’s why we developed the Avalon Mini 3, a household baseboard heater that also mines Bitcoin—allowing users to efficiently generate heat while earning Bitcoin in a sustainable way.
Designed as a Heater First
First and foremost, the Avalon Mini 3 is a heater. When defining its modes and functionality, we prioritized an optimal heating experience, incorporating features such as fast heating, quiet operation, tip-over protection, and a night light for low-light settings.
Additionally, some users have expressed concerns about high chip temperatures affecting device stability. In reality, the Avalon Mini 3 uses the same high-temperature-resistant chips as the Avalon Miner A15 series, meaning the device actually performs better at higher temperatures rather than being negatively impacted.
Our goal was to create a device that balances practicality and mining efficiency. The Avalon Mini 3 is designed to fit seamlessly into everyday life—making Bitcoin mining more accessible while allowing users to benefit directly from the heat it generates.
II. Modes and Usage Scenarios
The Avalon Mini 3 offers three operating modes: Heater Mode, Mining Mode, and Night Mode. Within Heater Mode, users can choose between two settings: Eco and Super. These settings can be adjusted and configured through the Avalon Family App.
To switch to Heater Mode from any other mode, simply double-click the "Switch" button (a touch-sensitive button on the back of the device). This will activate the Super setting. If the device is already in Heater Mode at the Super setting, another double-click will switch it to Eco setting.
- Heater Mode
Heater Mode is designed for situations where indoor heating is the primary focus. In this mode, the chip's average target temperature is set to 90°C (194°F), allowing it to generate heat efficiently while mining Bitcoin.
Users can set a target ambient temperature via the Avalon Family App. When the room temperature reaches the set target, the device will enter Idle Mode to prevent overheating and maintain comfort. It will remain idle until the temperature drops 2°C below the target, at which point it will automatically restart—similar to how an air conditioner operates. Thanks to the high-temperature resistance and stability of the Avalon Mini 3's computing chips, Heater Mode continues to deliver impressive hash rates, even in cooler environments.
If the target temperature is set to High, the device will not regulate the ambient temperature, functioning similarly to a traditional space heater. However, like all electronic devices, the Avalon Mini 3 has specific operating limits. The maximum allowable ambient temperature is 40°C (104°F). If this limit is reached, the device will enter Idle Mode and will only resume operation once the temperature drops below 38°C (100.4°F).
Heater Mode offers two settings:
- Eco Mode: Optimized for 500W power output
- Super Mode: Operates at 800W for maximum heating and mining efficiency
Each mode applies different performance standards to balance heat output and hash rate effectively.
- Mining Mode
Mining Mode is designed exclusively for Bitcoin mining. In this mode, the average target temperature of the chips is set to 75°C (167°F). To prevent overheating, the fans may produce more noise compared to Heater Mode. In this state, the Avalon Mini 3 operates at full capacity, maximizing energy efficiency and hash rate.
Unlike Heater Mode, users cannot set a target temperature in Mining Mode, as it is not intended for heating purposes. This mode can be used for Bitcoin mining year-round, but users should ensure that the ambient temperature does not exceed 40°C (104°F) to maintain optimal performance.
- Night Mode
Night Mode is designed for quiet heating during winter nights while sleeping. The primary goal of this mode is minimizing noise, so the device adjusts fan speed in real time while optimizing power and heat output as needed.
To ensure effective heating with minimal disruption, the average target temperature of the chips is set to 80°C (176°F), providing a comfortable and efficient warming experience.
Additionally, users can set a target temperature to ensure a comfortable sleeping environment and prevent excessive heat.
III. Upcoming Experience Improvements
We sincerely appreciate the feedback and suggestions from our users. To enhance the product experience, we will be implementing the following improvements:
- Immediate Updates to the Avalon Family App: We will add a question mark icon next to relevant features within the app. Tapping this icon will provide clear explanations of each function, helping users quickly understand and select the features they need.
- Future UI Enhancements: In upcoming updates, we plan to upgrade the app’s user interface (UI) to make it easier for users to identify the best usage scenarios for each mode at a glance.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely, The Avalon Home Series R&D Team
